The wind is “sweepin’ down the plain” for our 40th anniversary production of Oklahoma! Theatre Scrapbook's very first production in 1982 was Oklahoma, which was then celebrated in 2002--and 40 years later we are carrying on the tradition! Theatre Scrapbook's production of Oklahoma will be presented May 20th and 21st at Westerly Middle School.
Based on the play “Green Grow the Lilacs” by Lynn Riggs, Rodgers & Hammerstein’s first collaboration remains, in many ways, their most innovative, setting the standards and rules of modern musical theatre.
In a Western territory just after the turn of the 20th century, a high-spirited rivalry between local farmers and cowboys provides a colorful background for Curly, a charming cowboy, and Laurey, a feisty farm girl, to play out their love story. Their romantic journey, as bumpy as a surrey ride down a country road, contrasts with the comic exploits of brazen Ado Annie and hapless Will Parker in a musical adventure embracing hope, determination and the promise of a new land.
Oklahoma is about 60 minutes long with no intermission and will be performed
Friday, May 20th at 7pm and
Saturday, May 21st at 3pm & 7pm
Masks are encouraged, but not required, and we kindly ask that anyone not feeling well, to please stay home.
